Aviation Heritage Park AHP plans to move the Sikorsky SH-3 helicopter, currently stored at the BG WC Airport, to AHP grounds, Saturday August 17. Preparation had begun for the Saturday evening trip down Scottsville Road to Three Springs Road. Due to the helicopter’s width, a portion of Three Springs Road will be blocked for approximately one hour during the move. Once at the park, the restoration process can begin. The restoration committee plans to have the helicopter restoration complete in time for the 2020 Hangar Party, next June.
This marks the eighth artifact to be exhibited permanently at the park. As part of the restoration process the SH-3H Sikorsky helicopter will be painted as Marine One, the model used to transport the President of the United States on short airlift trips, mainly from the white house lawn to Joint Base Andrews and back. The bird will honor late Bowling Green native Marine Colonel Arthur “Mac” Reynolds, who flew for four US presidents.
