Aircraft enthusiasts of all ages came to Aviation Heritage Park for Open Cockpit on October 19th. The yearly event gives attendees a chance to get a close-up look inside the cockpits of the beautifully restored planes on display. Additionally, interested visitors have the opportunity to climb inside the T-38 Talon, the very plane every astronaut who ever walked on the moon once flew.
This year’s attendees had a special treat, the opportunity to meet one of the astronauts who flew the T-38. Russellville, KY native and current NASA Chief of Safety and Missions, astronaut Terry Wilcutt was on hand to meet and chat with people.
Visitors got to see the remarkable six aircraft from last year, plus get a glimpse of the “Marine One” helicopter now undergoing renovation. Also on hand were members of area first responders, including the Plano Volunteer Fire Department, the Bowling Green Police Department, and the Med Center Health ambulance service.
