The Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association (known as the River Rats) will hold their 50th reunion in Bowling Green October 12-15. During that event they will reveal their new museum exhibit at Aviation Heritage Park Museum.
This will be a permanent exhibit, known as “Home of the River Rats,” which will celebrate and preserve the legacy and history of this legendary group of US combat pilots. The exhibit will include memorials of key individuals, historical timeline of theRiver Rats, artifacts, artwork and aviation model exhibits, and archived document storage. The River Rats Museum will be located on the mezzanine level of the Aviation Heritage Park Museum.
The grand opening event of the River Rats’ exhibit is scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 12 at 2 pm at the Aviation Heritage Park Museum. Local dignitaries will be on hand to welcome the River Rats to the new Aviation Heritage Park Museum and to Bowling Green. River Rats speakers will speak about their important role in aviation history. If the weather permits, an exciting aerial display is planned.
Aviation Heritage Park is located at 1825 Three Springs Road, Bowling Green, KY. The park is always free of charge and open 7 am – 7 pm, 365 days/year. The Aviation Heritage Park Museum is inside the park and open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am – 2 pm. Currently there is no admission fee to tour the museum.
