SUMMARY:Open Hood/Cockpit at Aviation Heritage Park
DESCRIPTION:Interested in astronauts\, aviation and Corvettes? Visit Aviation Heritage Park on Saturday. August 31 from 10 am to 1 pm for an event featuring all of those things. This event is also a fundraising opportunity for AHP. Every dollar raised through donations Saturday will be matched and put towards the proposed 11\,000 square foot museum currently under construction at AHP. \nCorvette enthusiast and current NASA Safety Specialist John Legere is bringing his unique 2006 Corvette to AHP this Saturday\, August 31\, from 10 am to 1 pm to join the NASA T-38 Talon in a special “Hoods-Up” event. The engine bay of Legere’s beautiful red Corvette is graced with autographs of many prominent astronauts such as Neil Armstrong  and John Glenn. Those very men\, and more\, have flown the AHP NASA T-38.  Bringing the two rare vehicles together is a unique opportunity that AHP is honored to host. \nBoth the Corvette and the NASA T-38 will have their “Hoods” up\, allowing visitors to not only see the signatures\, but to also sit in the cockpit of the T-38 for photo opportunities\, or to just dream what it was like to fly this graceful machine. T-38s are on public display in only 12 locations across the country\, with AHP being the newest \nAlong with these two artifacts\, Legere will have on hand other space-related hardware to exhibit\, including several of the heat shielding tiles actually flown on the Space Shuttle. He will be happy to speak with visitors about his exciting life at NASA\, while the AHP docents will be at the other aircraft in the park as well to share information about the aircraft and the distinguished aviators they represent.

SUMMARY:DC-3 Rides
DESCRIPTION:Take a flight back in time on the historic DC-3 “Flagship Detroit.”  Flights will be available at the Bowling Green/Warren County Airport to members of the Flagship Detroit Foundation (flights free to members). You can easily join the Foundation ($100)  on the Flagship Detroit website. If you are interested in a ride please read this information from the Flagship Detroit website: \nA facet of our mission is to allow the public to experience the way it was to fly in the 1930’s when passenger service was in its infancy and at a time when only the wealthy had the means for air travel. Current members of the Foundation are invited to ride on the Flagship Detroit. New memberships entitle the individual to take a local area nostalgic flight on the DC-3 when the local event host allows this activity. In addition\, members may ride on positioning flights on a space available basis (all additional travel expenses incurred are the responsiblity of the member). While the positioning flight schedules are not published on the Upcoming Events page\, these flights normally precede and follow the dates of the scheduled events by a day or two. If you are interested in taking a flight to or from a specific event\, contact us by email and we will give you the specific information on the flight. See JOIN US for membership details. \nA Note About Our Membership Rides \nWe normally fly enough trips each day to accommodate everyone who desires to fly. Each daily flight will depart when there are a required minimum number of riders. For that reason\, exact departure times are not published unless the minimum guarantee has already been met. It is not necessary to make a reservation\, but\, if you wish to do so\, you will be accommodated in the order received. (Note: Membership entitles the member for one local area membership ride. Multiple local area rides are at the sole discretion of the Foundation.) Each flight will be approximately twenty minutes takoff to landing time. During flight time\, you will be able move about the cabin and visit the cockpit to observe the pilots and the view from up front. Feel free to photograph your experience. Stairs are used for entering and exiting the airplane and all passengers are required to be physically able to enplane and deplane without assistance. \nFriday\, June 14\, 3-6 PM\nSaturday\, June 15\, 10 AM – 2 PM\nSunday\, June 16\, 11 AM – 2 PM \n \n
