My Enemy, My Friend exhibit
On April 16, 1972, at 15,000 feet in the skies near Hanoi, North Vietnam, Major Dan Cherry first met Lieutenant Nguyen Hong My in battle, with Dan in his F-4 Phantom and Hong My in his MiG-21. In an intense five-minute aerial battle, Dan shot down the Russian-made fighter jet, barely missing his adversary as he ejected from the burning aircraft. Thirty-six years later, both pilots met again and became friends in a powerful story of healing and reconciliation.
Dan’s F-4 Phantom jet, which he flew that day, is displayed at the AHP, while this gallery inside the museum commemorates this historic moment with artifacts, photos, and an interactive display.
